Dermal Lip Fillers
WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?
Injectable cosmetic filler is a soft tissue filler injected into the skin to help fill in facial wrinkles, restoring a smoother appearance, enhance the size and shape of our features most commonly used in the lips and cheeks. Most of these wrinkle fillers are temporary because they are eventually absorbed by the body.
HOW LONG DOES THE FILLER LAST?
Hyaluronic acid is the filler we use and commonly lasts between 6 – 8 months.
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural substance found inside the human body WHICH MAKES IT VERY RARE FOR ANY ALLERGIC REACTIONS. It’s key properties are to keep the skin hydrated whilst adding plumpness. HA naturally breaks down in the body during metabolism and is then replaced. However as we get older and our metabolism slows down, replacement of HA is less often which results in less hydrated skin and less volume in the skin. Immediately after the treatment, there may be a slight redness, swelling, tenderness, a faint bubble like appearance and an itching sensation in the treated area. These side-effects are a normal result of the injection and will generally disappears gradually over a period of 7-14 days.
DOES THE TREATMENT HURT?
Numbing cream is applied to the area before the treatment takes place making the process more comfortable. It’s recommended to avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers before and after the procedure as these can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising, swelling and bleeding. Ibuprofen and aspirin are the most well- known anti-inflammatory drugs; however, during your consultation it’s important that you let us know what medication you are taking so we can advise on possible contraindications.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT STRAIGHT AFTER?
Common symptoms such as swelling, bruising and redness can occur at the site of injection. Resolution is usually within one week.
AFTERCARE
Should not be used in conjunction with any skin treatments including laser. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours pre and post treatment. Avoid strenuous exercise for a week after derma fillers – Light movements are fine. Avoid touching the face for at least six hours after treatment to avoid infection
